Los Angeles, CA (February 28, 2018) --  Rebelle Road, the recently launched entertainment company dedicated to expanding the role for women in the country/roots genre, has announced a full day of performances, a music industry panel, and women’s whisky tasting in Austin, Texas on Wednesday, March 14 from 10am – 10pm.  The event will take place at the Hideaway Kitchen & Bar, located in the newly renovated Ramada Austin South and will be free and open to the public.

Performances by well-known and up-and-coming artists include:  Rosie Flores, Brennen Leigh, Ladies Gun Club, Emily Herring, Pearl Charles, Jaimee Harris, NOCONA, Christy Hays, Calico the Band, Chris Fullerton, Jenny Van West, Carson McHone, Alice Wallace and Ali Holder.  (Schedule Below)

The day will start at 10:00 am with a female-fronted music industry panel entitled, WOMEN WALK THE LINE:  Paving the Road to Parity in the Country/Roots Genre. Speakers will include:  Award-winning rockabilly artist Rosie Flores ; journalist/songwriter/producer and Woman Walk the Line author, Holly Gleason ; Artist (Ladies Gun Club) and Café Rooster Record company owner Sally Jaye; Artist and TeXchromosome founder Penny Jo Pullus  and Shilah Morrow, founder/president 14 Inch Fringe Creative Artist Management/Creative Services Network.

“The timing is clearly right for each genre within the music industry to examine its own history, practices and current barriers to success for women, both on stage and behind the scenes,” said Karen Rappaport McHugh, co-founder of Rebelle Road along with artists KP Hawthorn and Adrienne Isom. “We’re thrilled that so many powerful women have agreed to speak on this issue, particularly as it wasn’t being covered during the official festival.”

The panel will look at the potential road map for females in the country/roots genre to receive industry support for management positions, broader radio airplay, venue and festival bookings, and consideration from labels.

Following the panel, Gleason will sign her book which was published by University of Texas Press.  The collection of personal essays from a diverse group of esteemed women music writers pays tribute to the female country artists who have inspired them.

Since the recent release of studies from the Annenberg Inclusion Initiative, media has reported widely on the disparity for women in a variety of industries and the momentum continues to build.  Change the Conversation co-founder and Nashville-based music industry executive Tracy Gershon stated, “It’s so encouraging to see Rebelle Road taking the next step in improving the environment for women in country music by showcasing them front and center during SXSW. We’ve been working since 2014 to change the conversation; together with all the other movements we can reach our end goal of never having the conversation again.”

As part of the day’s events, female owned companies including Brenne Whisky, CityGirl Coffee and The Outlaw Woman are supporting the experience, along with FEW Spirits and Dripping Springs Vodka, Ramada, the Hideaway Bar & Grill with more to be added. Brenne Whisky will also host a special Women’s Whisky Tasting Workshop from 4:30 – 5:30 pm.

Rebelle Road is a Los Angeles-based entertainment company founded by industry executive Karen Rappaport McHugh, along with Americana artists KP Hawthorn and Adrienne Isom.  Dedicated to exploring the female point of view in music, Film/TV and other experiences, the trio is developing a concert series, podcast, boutique festival and Film/TV properties. “Women’s contributions in all aspects of Western life have been minimized and our goal is to bring these untold stories forward, particularly as they impact music,” they stated.
