During the official conference on September 17th at 2PM, the AMA will host a panel, “From Song to Screen: The Making of The Palomino Documentary Film” featuring artist Jim Lauderdale, director Adrienne Isom, writer KP Hawthorn and producer Shilah Morrow of the film. The 1980s in Los Angeles was such an innovative time for roots music. Bands like The Blasters, Rank and File, X, Lucinda Williams, Jim Lauderdale, Lone Justice, The Beat Farmers and more were blending punk rock with country music and classic songwriting while doing it on their terms. Venues like The Palomino Club in North Hollywood were a breeding ground for a new sound we know as Cowpunk - born of the rebel spirit of young artists who embraced country music in their own way.

Twang City Presents a Stacked Line-up of Emerging Country Talent During AmericanaFest

Twang City is bringing the party during Americana fest with a stacked lineup of full-band, full-set performances from Kristina Murray, India Ramey, Grey DeLisle & The Blue Ribbon Boys, and John Surge & The Haymakers.
The third annual Honky Tonk Happy Hour takes over East Nashville honky tonk The Underdog on Thursday, Sept. 17, from 4-8 p.m. The unofficial showcase during festival week has become a destination for fans looking to catch some of the best emerging voices in country and Americana—for free and without need for a wristband.
This year’s lineup brings together four distinctive artists carrying the traditions of classic country into the present day:
KRISTINA MURRAY
New West Recording artist Kristina Murray draws deeply from the classic country and honky tonk traditions. Glide Magazine describes the Nashville-based songwriter as “steeped in classic country and honky tonk,” noting that her music leans into “heartache and loneliness” and is clearly inspired by Hank Williams, Patsy Cline, and George Jones.
INDIA RAMEY
India Ramey continues to make her mark with Villain Era, her new album on Copaco/Blue Élan Records. Nashville Scene calls the record “A timeless classic. Every other Americana artist ought to sit up and take notice,” underscoring Ramey’s distinctive voice and uncompromising approach to roots music.
GREY DELISLE & THE BLUE RIBBON BOYS
Fresh off a UK tour, acclaimed Los Angeles artist Grey DeLisle is preparing to release her new album, Don’t Turn Around. Her singular blend of country, roots, and Americana has earned praise from artists including Rosie Flores, who proclaimed, “Grey DeLisle is our modern-day Loretta Lynn.”
JOHN SURGE & THE HAYMAKERS
Performing in support of their new association with Jacaranda Records, John Surge & The Haymakers deliver a modern take on the sounds of classic West Coast country. Lonesome Highway describes the band as “the right side of retro country,” praising them for “perfecting a personal vision of the music that came from the likes of the Palomino Club in its heyday in L.A.”
