Kate MacLeod’s Mind the Gap
Kate MacLeod with accompanying musicians Paul Hammerton, John Bryant, and Matthew Metz

Mind the Gap has banded together since Kate's been living part-time in Harpers Ferry, WV, looking after her 98-yeqr-old Mom. New friends and music have come from her returning to her roots, fostering new inspiration, as you can hear in this inspiring love song. Kate MacLeod's Never Looked So Good to Me Before, captures the bright and optimistic feeling of new love that renews the soul and rejuvenates life. As with many of her songs, it began from hearing something that someone said, this time during a car ride on winding roads through green fields and sycamore trees.

The band hopes that you can hear the classic sounds and measured lyric writing of early country and traditional music that the musicians in Mind the Gap have all been in influenced by, but have added a fresh take on.The harmonies for the third verse are an homage to all of the great harmonies that have influenced us; such as The Louvin Brothers, and Hazel Dickens and Alice Gerrard. This song was recorded at Cabin Studios in Leesburg, VA, with engineer Dustin DeLage. In addition to the band’s input on this, Kate dusted off the piano keys for playing on this track.

Artist Bio
Neo Traditional musician Kate MacLeod carries traditions into the future by bringing the sounds of older music into “the now.” Originally from the Washington CD area, she shares her life with two mountain ranges; the Appalachian Mountains of the eastern United States, and the Wasatch Mountains in the state of Utah. Since her first recording (produced by Charles Sawtelle of Hot Rize) her songs have been recorded by other artists from California to the Czech Republic. She has since worked with some of the finest in her genre, such as Tim O’Brien, who produced her “Blooming” recording. Kate has toured in the United States, Canada, Belgium, Holland, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Italy, and the UK. She was chosen for the Best of the West Award, 2019, by the Far-West division of Folk Alliance International. In addition to her Americana music, she’s a versatile composer and received the 2019 Alfred Lambourne Friends of the Great Salt Lake Award for an original violin duet. Her original music has been used in a variety of documentary and film scores.

Joining Kate in Mind the Gap are Paul Hammerton on vocals and acoustic guitar, John Bryant on vocals and acoustic bass, and Matthew Metz on vocals and mandolin. Paul is a native of the UK but has lived in Western Virginia for many years where he soaks in the sounds of the Old-Time Appalachian music that he loves. John Bryant, a native of West Virginia, has a degree in music from the University of West Virginia in Morgantown, WV. Matthew Metz lives in Dargan, MD, is a teacher, and performs with a variety of music groups in the region where he lives.
